What is Botox?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is FDA-approved to temporarily relax facial muscles that causes lines and wrinkles. Wrinkles relaxers are best used in area of facial expression such as frown lines, crows’ feet and 11s between the eyebrows. We make many expressions throughout our lives, which can cause creases in the skin. When it is injected, it blocks the signals from the nerve to the muscle. The muscle is paralyzed and the skin doesn’t move, resulting in fewer or shallower wrinkles.
Will My Face Look Unnatural?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment. When Botox is done right, it can you assist you naturally in the aging process. You can trust BOTOX® Cosmetic to deliver subtle results when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy. So you’ll look like yourself—only with less noticeable lines. No one should be able to tell you’ve had anything done
Is There Any Downtime With Botox
Treatment requires minimal downtime. You can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave your specialist’s office. You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours, with full results in 14 days, with results lasting up to 3 months for moderate to severe frown lines.
How Often Should You Get Botox
How often you should get Botox depends on your age, wrinkles, and how long the treatment normally lasts for you. Although no two patients are the same, the average time frame for Botox efficacy is three to four months. After that time period, you’ll start to see your original facial lines and wrinkles reappear.
Post Botox Care
After your Botox Injection, it is recommended that you do not apply excess pressure to your face, especially in the areas that were injected with Botox.
Massaging, rubbing and applying makeup is generally not recommended for 24 hours. This is mainly a protective measure against the Botox spreading to undesired areas of the face like the eyes, which can cause a temporary drooping of the eyelids.
Try to sleep on your back for the first night. It is recommended that patients do not sleep on their face, or lie down for 5 hours after injection to circumvent any spreading of Botox.
For the same reason as cited above, strenuous exercise should be avoided for the first 24 hours.
Other facial procedures, even mildly invasive, such as microdermabrasion’s, micro needling, chemical peels, or any type of facial should be avoided for up to a week.
Botulinum-A is contraindicated in individuals with:
Pre-existing medical conditions that cause muscle weakness, including motor neuron disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis)
Lou Gehrig Disease and myasthenia gravis Infection overlying the injection site
Previous allergic or hypersensitive reactions to botulinum-A.
Botulinum-A should also be avoided during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
Certain medications that enhance the effects botulinum-A should be avoided. These medications include tetracycline antibiotics and aminoglycoside antibiotics.
Blood thinners — including aspirin, warfarin and dabigatran — increase the risk of significant bruising from injection sites.
